Several folk at work complain to me that Easter moves about too much, and because I am a Christian they seem to blame me!
In fact it was at the Council of Nicea in 325 AD that the date was set as the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox (March 21). The earliest possible date for Easter is March 22 and the latest April 25. We won't see another Easter this early until 2070 (take a look at

The reason that it moves about is because it follows the lunar calendar of the Jews, and Easter is celebrated at the same time as Jewish Passover. The Passover was when God sent the angel of death to Egypt to kill every firstborn son, from the palace to the poorest house. But the angel 'passed-over' the houses of the Israelites. Why? - because they sprinkled the blood of a lamb on their doors as instructed by God. So you see that the Jews didn't deserve Passover, it was nothing they had done that saved them, even though their salvation was great. In the same way, we do not deserve Easter, because Easter was the weekend when Jesus gave up his own blood in agony to save us from the punishment we all deserve. Do you already know about this rescue plan from God? If not, do you sense deep inside that your life is missing something, perhaps you find no deep satisfaction, or sense that there must be a greater meaning to it all. If so then start finding the answers in the Easter story, for although none of us deserve Easter - yet we have been given it as a gift from God.
